Restoring the Park

In 2012, the Friends of Goodwin Park adopted a new concept plan for the restoration of Goodwin Park.  The concept plan is our guide in determining which projects to undertake.  We are proud of our work to date.

Recent Accomplishments 

Spring Bulbs Planted:  In late fall 2015, FOGP worked with Elizabeth Morin of DPW to plant daffodil bulbs throughout the park and along the median strip at entrance to Hartford from Wethersfield on Maple Ave

New Picnic Tables: A heartfelt thank you to Eagle Scout Raul Castro and Scout Troop 50 for building and donating eight new picnic tables to Goodwin Park (November 2012)


Working with Volunteers to Create and Maintain Flower Beds, Prepare Tennis Courts, and Clean the Pond

Beautification / Improvement to the Natural Environment
  • Created two walking trails through the woods
  • Resurfaced the tennis courts
  • Closed portion of the roadway to traffic
  • Continued removal of poison ivy vines from trees in the woods
  • Installed new landscaping at the pond house
  • Maintained flower beds at Maple Avenue and Hubbard Road entrances.
City Led Projects to Improve the Built Environment 
  • New fencing on South Street, Hubbard Road and on portions of the roadway
  • Renovation of the pond house
  • Installation of an open-air fitness circuit
  • Installation of new security gate at Maple Avenue entrance
  • Installation of gates to demarcate closed area of the roadway
  • Installation of  new spray pad
